Hello

Hi, I’m Abbie Metcalfe; a Canadian artist and educator with over 20 years of experience in dance, yoga, and movement wellness. I blend classical training with a passion for community, using movement to inspire connection, creativity, and holistic well-being. Whether through ballet, choreography, or wellness practices, I help students and performers build strength, confidence, and authentic expression.

My Story

Abbie Metcalfe is a passionate Canadian artist and educator with over two decades of diverse experience in dance, yoga, and movement-based wellness. Specializing in ballet, acrobatics, and contemporary styles, Abbie’s journey began at a young age and has been shaped by training with prestigious institutions such as L’École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, Ballet Jörgen, and Canada’s National Ballet School. She holds distinctions in all RAD examinations, including Advanced 1, as well as in all Vaganova assessments.

Abbie’s teaching philosophy emphasizes a supportive and nurturing environment where students of all levels, from beginners to advanced competitors, can thrive. Her repertoire spans dance styles including ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, modern, lyrical, and acrobatics, alongside yoga and specialized figure skating conditioning and choreography. Drawing from her competitive figure skating and gymnastics background, Abbie offers off-ice conditioning and flexibility training designed to enhance performance and well-being for skaters and dancers across Canada.

A graduate with honours from York University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance Program, Abbie was recognized with several prestigious awards, including the IMASCO Performing Arts Award and the Julianna Lau Award in Dance Therapy. She is certified with Yoga Alliance International and Acrobatique ADTA, and integrates principles from both yoga and dance to promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being in her students.

Abbie has worked as a co-director at AB Performing Arts Centre in southern Alberta and continues to guest-choreograph for dance studios and figure skating clubs across the country. As an artist, she is deeply committed to using choreography as a medium for connection, transforming everyday movement into meaningful expressions of the human experience. Her work in contemporary ballet explores the interplay between physicality and culture, drawing inspiration from both shared experiences and individual uniqueness. She views the body not only as a biological vessel but as a cultural artifact, one shaped by modern life and capable of change through intentional movement.

Through her teaching and choreography, Abbie seeks to inspire a sense of community, creativity, and holistic well-being. She believes movement is more than physical, it is a pathway to connection, empowerment, and transformation.
